On 20 October 2024, 20 members of the ORO Volunteer Team provided support to the Pink Walk 2024 at the Peak Garden. This was the annual signature fundraising event of the Hong Kong Breast Cancer Foundation (HKBCF) with the aims of raising public awareness of breast cancer threats in Hong Kong and promoting the importance of breast health. The event also helped to raise funds for breast cancer screening, patient support, research and advocacy work of HKBCF. Our colleagues were pleased to contribute to such an important cause with our collective efforts.
On 8 September 2024, 40 members of the ORO Volunteer Team, led by our senior management, joined forces with the charitable organization Intergeneration Foundation Limited. Together, we prepared 800 festive fortune bags for distribution to the elderly living alone.
These thoughtfully packed fortune bags contained essentials such as rice, noodles, tea leaves, soup pack, surgical masks, and lanterns—items that are favorites among the elderly. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, the ORO Volunteer Team generously sponsored adorable “bear-towels” to be included in each fortune bag.
Our volunteers were pleased to bring warmth and joy to our community in celebrating the national day together!
On 18 August 2024, nine members of the ORO Volunteer Team joined Gingko House to prepare 180 meal boxes at its social enterprise restaurant in Cheung Sha Wan and distributed them to the needy people living in the area. The ORO Volunteer Team also donated the paper-packaged drinks to accompany the meal boxes for a wonderful addition. Our colleagues were pleased to have the interactions with the elderly residents during the activity and to make a real difference in their day.
In the evening of 1 June 2024 the ORO Volunteer Team participated in the “Community Chest Charity Show” held in the Tseung Kwan O TVB City. Eight colleagues and their family members/friends helped the Community Chest to handle the calls for donations from the public. Our team members are pleased to help the Community Chest to raise funds for the projects and services it supports.
The ORO Volunteer Team joined an activity on 25 May 2024 organised by the charitable organization, Intergeneration Foundation Limited, preparing herbal aroma sachets and twist stick sunflowers for distribution to the elderly during the Dragon Boat Festival. A total of 26 colleagues and their family members/friends have joined this volunteer activity to bring joy and comfort to the elderly during this special holiday.
In the morning of 4 February 2024, the ORO Volunteer Team participated in the shoreline clean-up activity at Little Palm Beach in Sai Kung organised by the Environmental Protection Department with the support of Greeners Action. 31 ORO colleagues and their family members/friends had collected about 15 bags of trash weighted about 53 kg. We were pleased to join this activity to preserve the natural beauty of Little Palm Beach and helped raising awareness about the importance of environmental conservation.
The ORO Volunteer Team participated in a scarf knitting for the elderly activity organized by the Build & Wish Volunteer Team from 20 December 2023 to 19 January 2024. 53 colleagues and their family members had knitted a total of 91 beautiful scarves within the month. The organizer had distributed the scarves to the street sleepers on 23 January 2024 to keep them warm under the cold weather. Our colleagues were pleased to have this opportunity to bring warmth, comfort, and joy to the homeless community.
On 13 January 2024, the ORO Volunteer Team joined the charitable organization, Intergeneration Foundation Limited, to prepare paper quilling Chinese New Year greeting cards for distribution for the elderly. 40 colleagues and their family members/friends had made 160 beautiful greeting cards to send their blessings to the elderly for the upcoming Chinese New Year celebrations. Our colleagues were pleased to join this meaningful cause which not only enriched the lives of the elderly but also strengthened the bonds within our community.
The ORO Volunteer Team was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation (500 hours or above) under the category of Non-Commercial Organization Award (Volunteer Hours) at the prestigious Hong Kong Volunteer Award 2023, held on 3 January 2024. This recognition is a testament to the dedication and commitment of colleagues to make a positive impact in our community through our volunteering efforts.
In the evenings on 27 and 30 November 2023, the Official Receiver and more than 10 ORO Volunteer Team members, consisting of the Solicitor Grade, Insolvency Officer Grade, Treasury Accountant Grade, Analyst/Programmer Grade and Executive Officer Grade, distributed leaflets to the public near the Tai Po Market MTR station to appeal to them to cast their votes on the upcoming District Council (DC) Election on 10 December. The DC election marks the first territory-wide district election to be held after the DC reform in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. It is an important milestone in improving district governance and carries great historical significance. We appealed to the public to vote together with their friends and relatives, so as to discharge their civic responsibility and support and accommodate the Government's governance.
The ORO Volunteer Team joined Food Angel on 25 November 2023 to prepare meal boxes for low-income families. Around 7,300 meal boxes were prepared by 13 colleagues. Our colleagues were pleased to participate in this activity bringing nourishment and comfort to families facing challenging times.
On 17 September 2023, the ORO Volunteer Team joined the charitable organization, Intergeneration Foundation Limited, in preparing fortune bags for distribution to the live-alone elderly during the Mid-Autumn Festival. With the efforts contributed by 36 colleagues and their family members/friends, over 800 fortune bags were prepared to deliver our care to the community.
From 12 to 14 September 2023, ORO Volunteer Team organized the face masks donation activity and passed the donation to the charitable organization, Intergeneration Foundation Limited, for distribution to the elderly. With the generosity and compassion of 38 ORO colleagues, a total of 3,700 masks (about 120 boxes) were collected. Our colleagues were delighted to have the opportunity to serve the community.
On 19 August 2023 the ORO Volunteer Team participated in the “Generations Connect” project which aimed to enhance the physical, psychosocial and mental wellbeing of the elderly. Six colleagues and their family members paired up with the nursing students of the University of Hong Kong provided self-care tips, conducted health assessments and promoted mental health education to the elderly through home visits. ORO Volunteer Team is pleased to contribute to community care.
The ORO Volunteer Team joined an activity on 4 June 2023 organised by the charitable organization, Intergeneration Foundation Limited, in preparing herbal aroma sachets for distribution to residents in elderly centres during the Dragon Boat Festival. A total of 420 herbal aroma sachets were prepared by 28 colleagues and their family members/friends. ORO Volunteer Team is pleased to have this opportunity to serve the community.
On Earth Day 2023 (22 April 2023), the ORO Volunteer Team joined a Shoreline Clean-up Day organized by the Environmental Protection Department. Over 70 kg of trash were collected by 43 ORO staff and their family member /friends at Ah Kung Wan, Sai Kung. Participants were delighted to take part in this activity on Earth Day to demonstrate our support for environmental protection.
On the morning of 11 March 2023, 14 members of the ORO Volunteer Team helped to prepare a total of 6,600 meal boxes at a food processing center of Food Angel in Kwun Tong for distribution to the low-income families. Our colleagues were delightful to participate in this meaningful activity to serve the community and help reduce food waste.
The ORO Volunteer Team participated in a book collection activity in support of the “Books for Love@$10” charity sale, of which around 600 second-hand books were collected from over 40 ORO staff during the period from 5 January to 30 January 2023. Colleagues were delighted to donate their books for passing on the joy of reading and help raising funds for the non-Government Organisations. The Boys’ & Girls’ Clubs Association of Hong Kong and the Agency for Volunteer Service are the beneficiaries this year.
The ORO Volunteer Team participated in a scarf knitting activity organized by Build & Wish Volunteer Team from November to December 2022. Over 130 scarves were collected from 65 colleagues across the department and passed to the organizer for distribution to the needy elderly. The ORO Volunteer Team serves the community in their spare time. By knitting beautiful scarves and donating to the elderly, ORO staff share love and care with them.
On the morning of 3 December 2022, 15 members of the ORO Volunteer Team joined the Devil’s Peak Cleanup Day organized by Christian Family Service Centre to clean up the mountain area and promote green hiking etiquette. A total of 10 kg of trash was collected which filled 6 bags. Colleagues were happy to take part to protect the pristine nature while enjoying the hike.
From 10 to 24 August 2022, over 60 ORO staff participated in the donation of food to Food Angel, organized by the ORO Volunteer Team. With the generous support from ORO colleagues, over 105 kg of food supplies were collected for donation. Food Angel prepare meals to and distribute food packs for those in need. ORO colleagues were happy to have this valuable opportunity to contribute to such a worthy cause and to help those less fortunate in the community.
On the morning of 18 June 2022, about 20 members of the ORO Volunteer Team sold flags for WWF-Hong Kong in the Central district. They included Solicitors, Insolvency Officers, Executive Officers, Official Languages Officers and officers from clerical grades. Colleagues were happy to join this meaningful event in their spare time to help raise funds for various initiatives of WWF, not least wetland conservation. It was also an excellent way to reach out to the community and to promote positivity during the event. ORO volunteers will continue to serve the community through other volunteer service.
